3025-3039 Light Mechs

First I will provide the blank mech cards (in case players wish to add their own painted mechs or artwork).

The following are mech cards featuring my painted miniatures.  I am doing a single card for each mech.

Elbowtech: An Introduction

I decided to delete and re-arrange all of the previous Elbowtech posts.  It was a bit scattered and confused.

And Elbowtech is...?

Elbowtech is a fan-based non-profit project aimed at creating a skirmish tabletop game out of Battletech.  It lies somewhere in between classic Battletech and Alpha Strike in complexity/feel.

I didn't enjoy the Alpha Strike games I've seen and watched, and yet I still wanted to run some Battletech games.  I also had three starter boxes sitting in the corner collecting dust, and wanted to get some stompy robot fun in before beginning the super lengthy road down to Robotech.

Elbowtech is intended for hexless games on a 4'x4' or larger gaming surface, using between a lance to a company of mechs for a single game.  Larger would be possible if the gaming surface was increased and multiple players were covering each side (perhaps as large as a battalion though this might get bogged down in the game...)

Using standard 1/285-1/300 scale mechs, I've converted all of the 3025 original TRO mechs over to Elbowtech cards (provided in the following posts).  I've done a couple of versions of the cards so far and settled on the current.  As it stands now I've produced cards only for the mechs that I have available, and will later provide blank cards for all of the standard 3025 mechs.

3050 will eventually happen, but not sure when.  I will not be moving past 3050, as I have little to no interest in the direction Battletech took as it became way too large and expansive a game...and lost a lot of the feel of the original old-school game.

The game does not use hex-bases though this doesn't hurt if you have them.  The rules are in process at the moment and will be shared via dropbox as they develop.

Provided in the next four posts are mech cards for 3025 era mechs.

Dusting off the cobwebs...

So, after nine months (changing jobs, moving...and finding I absolutely hate everything about my situation right now!) I managed to calm myself down long enough to put some paint on some figures.

I picked up a couple of Tre Manor's sculpts from Reaper - all in metal.  I like Bones but I'm not a huge fan of it on smaller miniatures.

I also grabbed a gorgeous vampyre model I had seen on another thread over on Lead Adventure.

Lo and behold the four figures of last weekend...

Just received a few of Tre Manor's bugbears in the Bones material (hoping they're bulky enough to not drive me mad).  I've been wanting to replace some of my less-than-awesome bugbears and these were cheap!

I hope to actually be able to post more regularly now...we'll see!

Some dungeoneering photos!

I ran an ad-hoc dungeon crawl a week ago and enjoyed it.  While I had the stuff out on the table I set up for some pictures.  These were not of the game itself (I'll take some next time, promise!)

First gaming in a while, and it's time to get back into painting!

A small hiccup in the hiatus!

I've recently moved into a new apartment, and I managed to bring some of my gaming stuff up.  I was digging through some boxes and found a recent order for the Crescent Root MDF "Series 2" set.

I put them together (they go together with small metal pins, no glue needed - though I'll definitely glue them together when I get the rest of my stuff up here!).

It's quite a lovely set.  I've set it up with some of my Old West goodies to see if it would pass as an 1890's warhouse.  Would look even better if I had some railroad tracks to lay alongside it.

Henchmen and a Hiatus.

So, I've been slowly picking away at some additional Otherworld henchmen figures, some additional dungeon dressing, and a small fury critter named Gurgi (from the Chronicles of Prydain books).

Some more Thomarillion stuff painted up.
 Role-call for the newly painted.

This was a Wyrd Miniatures figure used for a Gurgi model - shipped to me by a kind fellow in Germany when I was seeking a suitable mini!

Henchman #1 - the lantern bearer.  Otherworld Minis.

Henchman #2 - bag bearer.  He had rather thick dip when dunked so he didn't fare quite so well.  I may eventually go and touch him up - maybe not.

Henchman #3 - I call him the "lootsman".
 Henchman #4 - The scribe, map-maker etc.

Hiatus
I'll be departing for a couple of months for a job-related thing, so this blog will be slow going.  It'll be some time early in 2015 before I can return to it, or indeed, any hobby projects.  Thanks for following.  I have heaps of stuff to do starting next year so this is not the end, just a break while I enjoy the comforts of travel for nigh on 10 weeks...(groan)

Robotech: Quel-Quallie Zentraedi Ship

While pursuing my original 1/200 scale Robotech project I collected this 1/720 scale Quel-Quallie (Theater Scout) ship by IMAI.  It was a rather poor model kit - thin, brittle plastic with questionable molds along the edges etc. and not much detail to speak of...you know the kind of kit which comes with decals to give you the illusion of detail instead of having it modeled?

The end result turned out pretty good, considering the quality of the kit.  No major modifications and I did not include the big radar cluster which is optional under the craft.  The craft is very brittle and I suspect I'll be repairing the legs sooner rather than later.

Because I assembled the kit without leaving room for a base or mount, I ended up using magnets.  The post is a chopped down paintbrush with a .25" super magnet attached.  I simply drop a magnet into the ship (between the engines) and roll it around until it sticks.  This lets me pivot and "pose" the ship easier at angles.  Also it will make it easier to transport.  Overall I'm happy with the result.

I hope it looks reasonable on a board filled with 1/285th Robotech miniatures though!

A minotaur and some furniture...

So, just a quick update on the continual dungeon push.  Things are slowing down as I've now finished over 100 miniatures for the dungeon-crawl.  I have knocked out some room furnishings, and a pre-paint Minotaur (re-based, re-armed, and re-painted as usual).  This was an okay miniature but the detail was unfortunately very soft.  The end result is rather "meh".  But he looks better at table-height than he does in pictures so I can't complain.

Another pre-paint monster saved from its terrible factory paintjob!
A bendy and rather unattractive axe was replaced by a decent metal sword.
A smattering of pieces from Thomarillion have been painted up to spruce up the dungeon.
