The complete Battle Masters Chaos army.

In just around two-months, I cranked out this entire force.  Mainly Battle Masters figures, but some Hero Quest guest appearances, and a few Warhammer fantasy monopose additions.

Forgotten Angels

I painted up these five Blood Angel terminators the other week - but forgot to take pictures or post them.  I'm not overly pleased with them - the sculpts are okay, but the prints were...mediocre.  A decent Etsy purchase though at half the cost of normal GW product.

These are an interpretation of the classic 'Saturnine' terminator from Rogue Trader days.  I wanted something different for 2nd edition, so these'll work.

The Forgotten Scout Squad

I forgot I was waiting for some decals to dry on this Space Marine Scout Squad from 2nd edition when I posted earlier.  Another five models (10 total) for use with Scrapheap and/or a possible 2nd edition 40K game we've been kicking around lately.

All aboard the struggle bus! Wooo woooo!

Been struggling to be motivated to do anything lately.  However, I had primed these five assault marines a while ago.  My enthusiasm for 40K has all but diminished, but I will try to see through this small 2nd edition force project.

Oldhammer: Blood Angel Space Marine Scouts

Struggled to get a good picture of these guys for some reason, but a squad of nice old metals, recovered from eBay minis.

Slightly...rough when picked up off eBay.

Stripped, cleaned, re-based, repainted.

Some ancient heralds, and some ancient Space Marines

I had two leftover cavalry I decided to make into stand-in heroes, and stand-in couriers (which can be used to guarantee command rolls once a game) for FSF.

Given the cheap Horus Heresy Mk6 space marines all over eBay I grabbed a few sets to make some marines for possible 2nd edition games in the future (my buddies and I have been talking about doing some cooperative bug hunts).

Not overly stoked with the results, but Space Marines are Space Marines.  Amusingly the very first "expensive" thing I bought at age 14 with my first job was a painted squad of the original RTB01 Beakie marines from a local hobby shop.  They happened to be painted red, so this is all coming full circle now.

Chaos Beastmen, 2nd Edition styles.

So, back when I was playing 8th edition I picked up several sets of the Blackstone Fortress Chaos Beastmen because I was going to write up a datasheet for them and run them as auxiliaries to my Chaos Space Marine force.

Fast forward a year...and while I painted the four I originally obtained with my box, the other eight were sitting idle as I'd lost all interest in 8th edition 40K as it ran rampant into nonsensical territory.  Then...2nd edition revival.

What's this?  A competently written codex!?  A Chaos Cultists list which includes actual Chaos Beastmen!?  Boom.  Motivation to finish the other eight.

Modified and equipped for 2nd edition (where they could actually take wargear and decent weapons).

Yes, the picture is a bit crap, but you get the point!  I armed five or six with Bolt Guns and made two "Champions" who can lead squads of Beastmen.  One is armed with a bolt pistol, power axe and chainsword...while the other is armed with a plasma pistol and power glove.

Games: 40K 2nd Edition!

Well...I managed to take advantage of Thanksgiving week with so many friends off work.  We started a week's worth of gaming, and I am here to present a handful of mediocre pictures!

Dark Angel Space Marines smash into the Tyranids, hoping to buy the Eldar Pirates time to align and power up the communication satellite.

A large swarm of Tyranids of all types hurtles at the satellite control station.
The first Dark Angel rhino on the scene drives straight into the Tyranid lines, marines firing out of every hatch and door.
Using the distraction of the Dark Angels the Eldar Pirates make a run for the control station.
In an effort that will see them sacrifice themselves, one of the Pirate squads moves up to engage the Tyranids while the other squad heads for the station's access door...

In the end (we played 1,000 pts. cooperatively facing a similar Tyranid force) we managed to achieve our objective and fire off an emergency message using the planet's communications satellites.  Only the Dark Angel's Techmarine and the leader of the Eldar Pirates survived - fleeing in a rhino.  Every other marine and pirate were killed.

Games!: Warhammer 40K (2nd edition, and 8th edition)

Was fortunate enough to visit some friends this weekend and got in...a lot of 40K.  Perhaps too much!

Got some 2nd edition games in against a friend who was running her Chaos Space Marines, on a gorgeous techno themed table/mat (mat from Deep Cut Studios)

Then I got in a couple games against another buddy, this time trying out my new mat (Concrete Area from Urbanmatz) and my new terrain!  Huzzah!).  The table is a work in a progress but it wasn't a bad time.  I did have one of the very worst dice-games I've ever had in 20 years...that was a tough defeat!
