Some games of Scrapheap, and some filthy peasants!

Got some games of Scrapheap in earlier in the week.  As usual we made some claustrophobic 'jungle gyms of death'.

Also put together some spare models I had on hand for the start of some 'peasant mobs' for Famine, Sword, & Fire.  These are npc units that'll feature in some scenarios.  I have another box on hand to assemble and paint.

Some trivial terrain tasks...

While ordering some Battlefield in a Box buildings for use with Merciless and FSF, I picked up one more set of smaller rocks to accompany my existing rock fields and little outcroppings, etc.  Fortunately I kinda/sorta figured out how to match them to my older stuff.

Nothing too excited, and yes I'm painting...pre-painted stuff, because pre-painted is never pre-painted enough. (more rhymes will come with the times...)

As delivered in the box.

Games!: Famine, Sword, & Fire

My Bazanti faced off (and narrowly defeated) my buddy's Undead horde today.

Short, stout fellows arrive to assist the Empire...

My buddy John has completed his first Dwarf unit, and he took it alongside some Empire models to fight my Chaos Battle Masters army this weekend.

As usual I forgot to take pictures, but I snagged some of his.

Battle Masters meets Famine, Sword, & Fire.

After finally finishing the two Battle Masters armies, we did a normal game of FSF last knight.  Sadly my "awful dice rolling" of old returned with a vengeance.  I don't normally blame dice for losing a game, but...yeah, my dice were absolutely atrocious.  In one instance I charged, wielding 8D6...managing to roll no less than five ones!  Not so great.

The Battle Masters project comes to an end...and lessons were learned.

Late last year I had rather silly thought..."What if I made two simple, robust armies for use at gaming conventions when I want to introduce people to Famine, Sword, & Fire?  I could use old miniatures from Battle Masters, a 1992 board game with sturdy and cheap figures..."

I picked up several sets of Battle Masters figures, and plowed through the Chaos side with relative ease...

I started struggling with the start of the Empire.  Painting 20-40 of the same exact mediocre sculpt with poor colour choices, etc.  By the end (yesterday evening), I was...hateful of the last 20 knights I had to paint.  My speed paint standard diminished and some are so ugly they're not even getting close up pictures.

So...maybe I should not have painted some 250+ miniatures for a convention game...the lesson has been learned.  I'm very anxious to start painting stuff I actually want to paint again!

Here is the Empire half to the Battle Masters project.

Rummaging for 15mm left-overs...

Trying to do anything other than paint more Battle Masters, I rummaged through my box of leftover 15mm kits, and found these four.  I painted them up in short order.  All are 15mm Battlefront/Flames of War kits, as usual.

The last Battle Masters infantry...Wood Elves!

The final unit of infantry for the "good guys" in my Battle Masters project...some Wood Elf monopose plastics from the mid-1990's.

More men-at-arms...Battle Masters.

Another 21 models added to the pile...closing in on the end of the "good" infantry.

Slogging through the Empire...(Battle Masters/FSF)

I have been slowly slogging through the Empire side of the Battle Masters project.  Now full of regret and not wanting to finish it...I must battle through!
