Skirmishing with some Necromunda models.

In a weird version of "taking a break from designing the dungeon crawl"...I made up a new rule set for fantasy skirmish.  We then immediately ported the idea over to Necromunda so my buddy could get some use out of his table and figures.

So I took a break from designing a game...to design two other games...?

Anyway, just a couple pictures from the Necromunda game.

More dungeon dwellers...

I've been off the painting train for a while.  I stripped down some old miniatures, rebased and reprimed them, and finally painted a few this past few days.

Some of these were painted recently, and other ones were painted back at the start of the dungeon crawl project.

Reaper Bones Black Monk.
Otherworld Miniatures 'Mule Handler'
Another Otherworld Miniatures henchman miniature with an alternate head slapped on.

Some skirmishes...

I haven't made much in the way of hobby progress this past half month.  Mainly I've been gaming (a solid excuse) and working on game design, including a quick project I decided to begin.

Some playtesting has occured.

Busting out the old Mordheim terrain!
Four warbands sneaking through the ruins looking for trouble.
Some fighters have just finished off an opponent.
My captain challenges another captain to a single combat on the bridges above.

The project is a simple deck-driven skirmish game for medieval or fantasy miniatures.  Just a quick side-project that may or may not find a place in our stable of games.

I did acquire and paint (very simply and quickly) some cheap 3D printed battlemechs in case I join some of my friends who have started playing Battletech lately.  Followers of the blog know I sold off massive collections of plastic Battletech mechs a while ago - but these new 3D prints are much nicer designs.  The ones I have are pretty mediocre print-quality so I spent to time painting them well.  Just a quick paint, wash, drybrush.

Left to right: Dervish, Jenner, Archer and Crab.

Dark Elves from the sea?!

Played a game the other day, a quick home-made game of fantasy skirmish created by my buddy.  We played a Dark Elf slave raid on a seaside village.  It was a good little scrap.  Each side was chasing bases of peasants around the table.

We (the good guys) had to order and shuffle them off the table, while the Dark Elf player needed to shuttle them over to the shoreline, etc.

A great "not" Red Sonja from Hasslefree Miniatures.

Here's the latest adventurer.  I wanted a female barbarian who wasn't a GW model, so I grabbed a new miniature from Hasslefree.  It's very much Red Sonja from the classic art.

Games!: Caverns, Crypts & Catacombs

Just a few more pictures of some CCC gaming.

In the first Chamber the party crashes into Wights and Cultists in a maze of magical mayhem.

In a demo game of the first quest...our party dies in a room surrounded by zombies and on fire.  The Warrior even made it so far as opening the door to flee...before he burned to death.

New fantastical heroes! (updated...)

I've painted up a couple more adventurers for dungeon crawling and role-playing duties.

A 3D printed Arab thief or vendor.
A Hasslefree Female Dwarf - note Hasslefree minis are pretty small...so she'll be doing double duty as a female Halfling, etc.

Shortly after posting this I finished this beautiful Tre Manor sculpt from Hasslefree.  He'll be serving as a "Legendary Encounter" in Caverns, Crypts & Catacombs and...I'm in love with the result.  It's rare I finish something and am genuinely stoked about it.  I love this figure/colour combo.

Games!: Caverns, Crypts & Catacombs

Just a few pictures of another game of CCC.

More dungeon adventurers!

I put together a couple of new adventurers using the Frostgrave Knights plastic box - which is simply superb.  These two were fun to assemble and paint.  Clean and not too much cluttered stuff - just enough.

This morning I also finished a great heavy set trader/merchant/diplomat in Arab guise (3D print gifted to me by a buddy)...and a sweet camel I've had sitting around from the older Conan Kickstarter.  I've finally painted it.  I don't even have a use for these figures, but they were great fun to paint.

Some dungeon crawling!

Been fortunate enough to run a handful of dungeon crawls...hopefully with one or two more this week.

The party runs into a collection of bandits and skeletons in the Quest Room.
Kicking in the door, the Hero Party comes face to face with a pack of Ghouls.
The Hero Party actually retreats onto the bridge over the chasm to narrow the attacking column.
In another game the Hero Party sneaks past a Stone Golem in a pitch black room...only to realize it will block their escape.  They assemble to fight it on the bridge.
"Hey, we interrupting something?"

One of the several dungeons, all based around the same style Quest.
